The 2010 World Veterans Individual Fencing Championships will be organized by the Croatian
Fencing Federation with the support of the Plava Laguna Company and the Town of
Poreč, under the auspices and authority of the Fédération Internationale d’Escrime (FIE).

Place and Date

The Championships will be held in the Intersport Centre of the PLAVA LAGUNA company
in Poreč from 28 September to 3 October 2010.

Venue

The Intersport Centre is a complex consisting of 2 sports halls in the Zelena Laguna resort
in Poreč, ideal for hosting international sporting events. It is especially convenient that it has
two connected halls with easy communication among them. The capacity of the large hall
is 500 spectators, 12 - 14 fencing pistes.

The capacity of the second hall is 200 spectators and 10 fencing pistes. Sports surgery
clinic, fitness and sauna are also situated in the Zelena Laguna resort, as well as a lot of
sports facilities.

Visa Requirements and Diplomatic Missions and Consular Offices
of the Republic of Croatia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia promised to support the 2010
World Veterans Individual Fencing Championships. Whenever participants, guest and visitors
need a visa to enter Croatia, our agencies abroad will issue visas swiftly and in a service-
oriented manner in accordance with the General Provisions of the Aliens Act. You can

Climate

Poreč has a mild Mediterranean climate. Summers are delightfully warm, with low humidity
and more than 10 hours of sun daily. Sea temperatures in summer peak at 28°C, which is
higher than in South Adriatic. Winds in the region of Poreč are moderate; mostly the light
mistral in summer. Winters are temperate and snow is very rare.

Accreditation

Participants will have to present the following documents at the time of accreditation: Passport,
FIE license 2009/2010, medical certificate (attesting the aptitude of the participants to
practice fencing in competition) and discharge of responsibility (signed letter on the day of
the accreditation)

The following Championship events will take place: Foil, Epee and Sabre


Entries

The number of entries per federation is limited to 4 participants per country, weapon and
age group. Entries must be sent to the Organizing Committee by the national federation of
each participant by 1 August 2010.

Entries must be submitted on the registration form, which will be available at the following
web address after 1 January 2010: http://www.hmsveterans.hr/ and sent per e-mail to:

According to the FIE, the entry fee is 55 Euros per participant and per one kind of weapon.
The entry fee is to be paid on the day of the accreditation.

The official language is Croatian. Many people speak English and German.

The voltage in Croatia is 230 V, 50 Hz, like in the rest of Europe.

Currency Exchange

1 € = 7,340 HRK

The basic Croatian currency unit is KUNA. There are 1 and 2 kuna coins, 5 kuna coins
and notes, and 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500,1000 kuna notes. 1 KUNA has 100 LIPAs, with
coins ranging from 1,2,5,10,20 to 50 lipas. Foreign currencies can be exchanged in banks,
exchange offices, post offices, etc.

Bank Work Hours

Banks and exchange offices are open 8 - 19 Monday through Friday and 8 – 12 Saturdays.
Most banks have ATMs, which operate 24 hours a day. Banks at the Zagreb Airport are
open 7 – 21 daily (including Sundays and holidays).

Post Offices

Post boxes in Croatia are yellow and post collection times are indicated on the post boxes.
The main post office in Poreč is in Vukovarska Street. Work hours: 7 – 21 Monday through
Friday, 7 – 19 Saturdays.

Work Hours

Work hours of governmental offices are 8:30 – 16:30 Monday through Friday. Most shops
and department stores are open non-stop 8 – 20 Monday through Friday, 8 – 15 Saturdays
and 8 – 13 Sundays.

Tipping

A service charge is already included in restaurant bills, but it is customary to “round up”
the amount of a restaurant bill. Hotel personnel usually expect tips of 10-30 kunas for their
services.


Tax Free Shopping

Tourists whose purchases exceed 500 Kunas may claim a VAT refund for all goods except
for petroleum products with TAX-FREE Cheques stamped by the Croatian customs authorities
when leaving the country. The time limit for tax refunds is one year.

Credit Cards

All major credit cards, such as American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/Master Card,
Visa, JCB and Eurocheques, are usually accepted in Croatia and their logos displayed in
points of sale.

Alcohol Law

The legal drinking age in Croatia is 18 years.

Telephone

Public phones take only phone cards, which can be purchased in post offices and department
stores. To call Poreč from abroad, dial the international code for Croatia 385, the
Poreč area code 52 and then the desired telephone number. GSM mobile networks are
available. Please check compatibility with your operator.

Medical Services – General Information

No vaccination or other medical certificates are required to enter Croatia. Health insurance
is not mandatory. Pharmacies are open 7 – 20.

In case of illness or injury dial 94 free of charge to call an ambulance.

Transportation

The Republic of Croatia is situated in Southeast Europe. It borders with Italy, Slovenia,
Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Croatia Airlines and foreign airline companies such as Lufthansa, Aeroflot, Alitalia, Austrian
Airlines, BH Airlines, CSA, German Wings, LOT, SAS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, WIZZ
Air, Air France, Malev etc. operate direct flights connecting Zagreb with 20 cities (Brussels,
Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna, Budapest, Copenhagen, Cologne, Sarajevo, Moscow, Skopje,
London, Rome, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, Lyon, Stuttgart, etc.).

The Zagreb International Airport is about 3 hours bus ride away from Poreč. The organizer
will provide transportation to Poreč by luxury buses.
